One Goal, One Dream - Sierra Leona 2009
Sierra Leone was the theater of an atrocious civil war between 1991 and 2002. More than 50000 people were killed, hundreds of thousands displaced, and several thousand men, women and children were deliberately mutilated by the rebels of the RUF (Revolutionary United Front)
Since 2001, a group of young amputees, almost all victims of bullets or machetes during the civil war, meet regularly on the beaches of Freetown to train. They are part of one soccer team the Single Legs Amputee Sports Association (SLASA)
Without financial means, the team has managed to convince sponsors, of whom the FIFA through its Football for Hope program, and participated in numerous international competition. The SLASA has a membership of over 300 amputees.
Thanks to the football, they found hope.
