The day after the elecctions in Birmania at least 20.000 burmese civilians, mostly Karen  have fled across the border from Myawaddy  into Thailand after fierce fighting between Karen rebels and Burmese goverment.The fighting erupted after the rebels rejected the Burmese army’s demand for them to withdraw. The Burmese Civilians who fled across the Moei River to Thailand were allowed to take refuge in Mai Sot for one day to come back at the next day to Myawaddy.
